Russia Refuses to Return to the G7, Calling the Format Outdated
Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov stated that the Group of Seven (G7) format is outdated and that Moscow has no interest in rejoining it.
“What is called the G7 today is an outdated format. It is naive to think that it plays any decisive role in the new international realities,” Stepanov said.
He emphasized that Russia is focusing on formats such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Group of Twenty (G20), which, in his view, serve as real mechanisms of global governance.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed a desire to reinstate Russia in the G7, calling the country’s exclusion a mistake.
However, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated that cooperation with Moscow is impossible.
