Renewed Turkiye-Egypt Ties Pave Way for New Era of Trade Relations: Report
According to an Anadolu Agency report published on 5 July, ever since Turkiye and Egypt’s renewed ties following a decade of minimal relations on the level of charges d’affaires, a new era of trade relations between Ankara and Cairo has begun.
On 4 July, both countries appointed diplomatic representation for the first time in over a decade, with joint statements clarifying that Salih Mutlu had been assigned to Turkiye’s embassy in Egypt, and Amr Elhamamy had been chosen as the Egyptian ambassador to Turkiye.
The Chairman of the Turkiye-Egypt Business Council, Mustafa Denizer, told Anadolu that relations between Turkiye and Egypt have remained stable since the two countries downgraded relations in 2013, yet both nations have taken the necessary initiatives to expand ties since the start of 2022…
The two countries previously downgraded relations after the Egyptian foreign ministry at the time accused Ankara of having too much influence over public opinion and seeking to create instability in Egypt.
Earlier in 2013, a Saudi and UAE-backed coup overthrew the Egyptian government of Muhammad Morsi, bringing Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to power.
The coup was a significant source of tension between Turkiye and Egypt, given Ankara and Doha’s support for Morsi’s democratically elected, Muslim Brotherhood-linked government.
