Redding Police Officers responded to the 800 block of Loma Street for the report of a male subject who pointed a gun at a victim and threatened to kill him while the two were arguing.
The suspect then assaulted the victim’s 5-week-old infant.
When officers arrived, the male suspect had fled but was identified as Rakim Leedy, 30 years of Redding.
Officers conducted an extensive area check for Leedy; however, he was not located.
Medical treatment was sought for the infant and no significant injury was found.
Later that day at about 5:18 P.M., Redding Police Department Neighborhood Police Unit Officers, located Leedy during a vehicle stop.
Multiple firearms, drugs, and drug paraphernalia were located within the vehicle.
Leedy was arrested without incident and charged with assault, criminal threats, brandishing a firearm, and child endangerment from the incident earlier in the day.
He was also charged with transportation of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sales, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of an assault rifle, possession of a large-capacity magazine, and possession of a concealed firearm, due to being in possession of the contraband during the vehicle stop.
Rakim Leedy has a lengthy criminal history and is a convicted violent offender.
In 2017 he was convicted in Shasta County of assault with a firearm and shooting at a person from a motor vehicle.
Leedy was sentenced to 7 years in prison for the 2017 case; however, only served three years before being released on California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Parole in January of 2021.
He was still currently on active CDCR Parole when he committed these new crimes.
Leedy has been arrested by the Redding Police two times since he was released from prison in 2021.
