Protesters set fire to administration building in Kazakhstan’s Almaty, as riots continue
Participants in the riots destroyed the first floor of the building of the MIR television and radio company, destroying the equipment that was used for filming, and then started a fire.
The local administration building was also engulfed in fire.
On Wednesday evening, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that he had appealed to the heads of the CSTO states with a request to assist Kazakhstan in overcoming the “terrorist threat.”
Protests are taking place in Almaty, Uralsk, Aktau, Aktobe, Shymkent and other cities. In the regions, there are problems with communication, Internet and TV broadcasting.
Unauthorized rallies began in Kazakhstan on Sunday after prices for liquefied gas rose from 60 to 120 tenge (from 10.1 to 20.3 rubles) per liter on January 1.
