Proposal for construction of Mashhad-Mecca highway in Iran-Saudi negotiations

According to these sources, the proposal to build the Mashhad-Mecca highway through Karbala was presented by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kazemi in the recent Iran-Saudi talks in Baghdad, and both sides welcomed it.
The route from Mashhad in northeastern Iran to the city of Mecca in western Saudi Arabia is more than 3300 km, which takes about 38 hours.
