Prince Andrew Hearing: Here’s a Bitesize Breakdown
Lawyers for Prince Andrew will fight to have the sexual assault lawsuit against him thrown out at a New York hearing Tuesday, arguing that a settlement between accuser Virginia Giuffre and Jeffrey Epstein protects the royal from litigation.
The court revealed Monday that Giuffre had agreed to drop a civil case against Epstein for $500k in 2009 – in a deal that apparently protects “other potential defendants.” Prince Andrew is not however directly named, with some legal experts saying the Queen’s son should brace for a trial as early as this year.
Giuffre alleges Andrew assaulted her at Epstein’s NY home as a minor, at his US Virgin Islands’ property and at Ghislaine Maxwell’s London home. The hearing is set to begin at 10am local time (in 30mins).
