White House Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre addressed reporters at a daily news briefing, saying a team of 20 doctors, including specialists, participated in the physical.
She added she feels Biden proves he is mentally fit each day.
“He passes a cognitive test every day, every day as he moves from topic to topic, understanding the granular level of these topics,” Jean-Pierre told reporters.
“This is a very rigorous job,” she added, “and the president has been able to do this job every day for the past three years.”
Jean-Pierre also said she spoke to Biden’s doctor, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, who informed her the president is in good health.
Biden, who is the oldest president in U.S. history, carried what appeared to be a cup of coffee as he walked out of the White House and boarded a helicopter that flew him to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
He was seen leaving the medical center about two-and-a-half hours later.
After he returned to the White House, Biden attended an event on combating crime and suggested that when it came to his health, “there is nothing different than last year.”
He also joked about his age, gesturing toward the assembled press corps and telling police leaders at the gathering, “They think I look too young.”
The official results of the exam were released around 5 p.m. ET, with O’Connor sharing a 6-page report. He noted that Biden “feels well” and the physical didn’t present any new concerns.
“President Biden is a healthy, active, robust, 81-year-old male who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” O’Connor wrote.
