The police released a surveillance video of the person of interest walking with a woman who was found murdered.
The Austin Police Department is investigating two separate slayings that it believes are connected to the same suspect.
Central Texas law enforcement agencies, including APD and Bastrop County Sheriff’s office, have been collaborating on the cases and have linked DNA evidence between the death of Alyssa Ann Rivera, found dead on June 21 and the 2018 unsolved murder of Alba Jenisse Aviles.
Austin Police released surveillance video of a person of interest who could be responsible for both murders.
In a press conference on Wednesday, the Austin Police Department said the person of interest appears to be a short Hispanic man who was seen walking with Rivera shortly before she was killed.
The 34-year-old Rivera’s body was found inside an abandoned home at 2600 Metcalfe Road, Austin police Detective Gabriel Guillen said at the press conference.
Detectives determined she had been strangled and sexually assaulted, said Sgt. Nathan Sexton, another detective on the case.
