RawNews1st – Police arrest a woman suspected of driving drunk, ignoring barricades, speeding onto a highway and dragging a downed electrical line, that happened to wrap around a good samaritan’s leg and sever it.
Tulsa Police say an officer was responding to 31st and Highway 169 at 2:40 a.m., when a driver managed to get onto the closed highway and drove through the downed lines, causing them to wrap around Officer Kevin Talley’s patrol unit.
They say Kevin Humphrey, who was broken down on the highway, went to check on Officer Talley, who was not in his patrol car at the time the lines wrapped around it.
They say 10 minutes later, Melanie Herrera, driving a black Dodge Charger, ignored Officer Talley as he waved his flashlight, she hit the downed power lines and cables, and kept driving around 65-70 mph.
They say that caused the downed power lines to wrap around Humphrey’s leg, yanked him to the ground, dragged him 50 yards and severed his left leg below the knee.
Officer Talley applied two tourniquets to Humphrey to save his life before paramedics arrived.
After surgery, Humphrey is now recovering.
Officers tracked down and arrested Melanie Herrera for
Leaving the Scene of a Collision Involving Injury
Running a Roadblock
Failure to Yield for an Emergency Vehicle
This is an arrest, not a conviction.
