RawNews1st – Police arrest a woman accused of taking financial advantage of a vulnerable adult.
The affidavit for Sonda Madlock says the man fell and was sent to the hospital, then a nursing home and wasn’t able to take care of his finances, and because Madlock had helped him some, he chose her to be his power of attorney.
Adult Protective Services did a full investigation and gathered documentation and called police.
They say documentation showed Madlock hadn’t paid the man’s nursing home bills, of up to nearly $28,000 and had moved money out of his account into her account, draining it of more than $79,000.
It says once the nursing home took control of the man’s social security checks, they were able to pay his bill.
It says when police questioned Madlock she said she moved the money to reimburse herself for some work she’d done for the man and because she’d rented him a place to live and some of the money was for improvements.
Police say she said all that totaled $25,000 and when they asked her about the rest of the money, she said she needed time to get documentation.
It says on that date, she and her attorney said they would not be coming in with the documents.
