Aerial surveillance in policing has always been a touchy subject, mostly because it’s largely unconstitutional.
While most departments have eased up on doing such things, others are flipping the situation and using tech for something beneficial.
Called “drones as specialist on call,” the program began in the San Diego suburb of Chula Vista back in 2018.
The city got authorization from the FAA to involve drones in the city’s airspace. Presently as per NBC, drone use has extended to other neighborhood urban communities like Beverly Slopes and Redondo Ocean side.
Officials call the drone use beneficial, especially in certain situations that can get tense with officers.
Frequently, the greatest recipient is the objective of a police experience. Last year, St Nick Monica got an emergency call about a man with a gun in a pharmacy parking area.
As officials sped to the scene, the robot soared over and at first seemed to affirm the man had a gun.
However, minutes after the fact, Lashley said as he showed the video to NBC News, “I can plainly see — and you’ll see him breathe out, there’s a smidgen of smoke here in a moment — that I’m very nearly 100% certain that that is a lighter of some sort.”
