I am deeply appalled and saddened by the shooting and killing of 6 people in Khayelitsha last night, following a spate of related shootings.
The WC Minister of Community Safety and Police Oversight, Reagen Allen, visited Khayelitsha SAPS today, where he received a briefing from SAPS.
On behalf of the Western Cape Government, I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.
Such violent and cruel acts have absolutely no place in our society.
SAPS’ organised crime detectives have opened murder dockets for investigation following an incident where 5 yet-to-be identified men fired at people on the corner of Maphongwana and Idada Street in Site C.
Organised crime detectives are investigating the matter.
It’s simply unacceptable that these mass shootings continue to take place and that we are not seeing guilty parties brought to book.
SAPS must ensure that arrests are made so that convictions follow. We cannot allow our communities to be terrorised.
