Philadelphia police officer shot in the head in North Philly, police say

A suspect is in custody after a Philadelphia police officer was shot and seriously injured on Saturday night in the Kensington section of the city.

Police say the officer was conducting a traffic stop on the 3500 block of F Street just before 8 p.m. when he was shot in the neck.

There was a manhunt underway for about two hours. We learned around 10 p.m. that the suspect was taken into custody in the area of the 800 block of E. Schiller Street.

The officer is currently in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.

Action News was there as Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel arrived at the hospital.

City officials are expected to provide an update at some point Saturday night.

The name of the officer who was shot has not been released.
