On December 28, 2021, Peyton Moyer, 20, shot and killed his mother, Ashley Schutza,42 and his stepfather, Benjamin Smith, 54.
Police responded to a shooting at Boldercrest Circle, Georgia. Upon entering the house, they found the two adults deceased with “apparent gunshot wounds”. Moyer’s two sisters (4 and 16 years old) were also found in the home; they were uninjured.
Moyer had fled the scene in one of the victims’ vehicles. A police officer recognized the car and attempted to pull Moyer over.
He fled, entering the Atlanta Highway, where police used a “tire deflation device.” Moyer continued for two blocks with flat tired before being apprehended.
Moyer is being charged with two counts of murder and one count of cruelty to children. He is currently being held in the Oconee County’s Jail without bond.
The motive for the murders has not been established. The case is still being investigated and will be updated as information becomes available.
