Parents have been charged after their family was stranded on the Yadkin River last month.
The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office said Megan Waters is charged with one count felony child abuse and misdemeanor child abuse. They also said Harvey Wilkins is charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
The sheriff’s office said the charges stem from a missing person report filed on July 16. Deputies said Wilkins told them he wanted to report his wife, Megan Waters and their daughter were missing.
He said they got separated while rafting on the river on July 15, during a storm, and were stranded the whole night.
“During this time of the investigation, Megan Waters and the young child pulled up in a car at Ronda Park and the family was reunited on land,” deputies said.
The charges were filed last week.
