A 13-year-old old boy was rushed by EMS to McLeod Seacoast Hospital but their condition was not immediately available.
On May 11, around 1:30 a.m., the teen died at the Medical University of South Carolina from blunt force trauma.
The victim was identified as 13-year-old Isaiah Gaymes.
The suspects, 40-year-old Ivy Jenerette and 34-year-old Samantha Gaymes, were arrested in connection with the alleged assault that led to Isaiah being rushed to the hospital.
Jenerette was later additionally charged with murder in the boy’s death.
Warrants state that Jenerette beat Isaiah and Samantha several times with a blunt object.
The assault caused life-threatening injuries to Isaiah, including multiple blunt force injuries to the side and back of the head, along with several other injuries that included broken bones, burns and permanent disfigurement to the face and body.
A warrant for Jenerette’s murder charge also stated a piece of wood and a handgun were recovered at the scene. Both objects tested presumptive for blood and were consistent with the injury patterns on the victim.
Arrest warrants for Isaiah’s mother, Samantha, show she allowed the pattern of physical abuse on the 13-year-old.
Samantha is charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk.
The Horry County Police Department and the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division will continue to investigate Isaiah’s case.
