Iowa – One person was killed Wednesday morning in a fire on the east side of Des Moines
Des Moines Fire Department personnel responded around 5:30 a.m. to the fire at a home in the 800 block of Knob Hill Drive. Smoke could be seen from several blocks away, said Des Moines Firefighter Ahman Douglass.
A firefighter using a thermal imaging camera found one person inside the home, Douglass said. Life-saving procedures were used to try to save the person’s life, but they were not successful, he said.
The identity of the person has not been released and no cause of the fire has been determined, Douglass said.Â
Twenty-eight people were killed in fires last year in Iowa, the fewest since 2013. Five people have been killed in fires in Iowa this year.Â
