One man is dead and police officer is injured after a shooting: Utah

One man is dead and a police officer is injured after a shooting overnight in West Jordan.

West Jordan police Lt. Richard Bell said someone called around 1 a.m., thinking an individual was breaking into cars at 3248 Jordan Line Parkway.

Officers arrived and made contact with the person they believed was involved in the alleged break-ins.

Bell said at some point during that contact, the officers and the suspect exchanged gunfire. One officer was hit and taken to a local hospital, where he is expected to recover.

The suspect was also hit and was declared dead at the scene, after officers tried to administer medical aid.
