On July 6, 2024, police say officers were called to an apartment on Zorn Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky on a report that “a baby was placed in a bag and hidden in a closet.”
Upon arrival, officers found a bag in the closet of the apartment “with possible blood and flies on it.”
On July 7, police said Mejia Aguilar told officers that “she had moved the baby to the trunk of her car” before they arrived.
Detectives then found the baby wrapped in a blanket and placed in a trash bag inside the trunk of a vehicle the woman said was hers.
After being read her rights, police said Mejia Aguilar told detectives she gave birth to the child on or about July 2.
Police said the baby appeared to be a full-term newborn. Their gender was not given. They say the baby’s condition as to whether it was stillborn, died during birth, or died after birth is still under an ongoing investigation by coroner.
There have been no results of an autopsy released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s office.
Aguilar is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections.
She was due to appear in court Monday morning.
