OFFICER-INVOLVED FATAL SHOOTING.
This happened last night in Stewart County, Tennessee.
Sheriff Frankie Gray says deputies were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the area of Hayes Ridge Road.
It was gone by the time they arrived, but after patrolling the area, the deputies spotted the vehicle parked off Highway 46.
The sheriff says deputies attempted to talk the driver out, but he refused.
The sheriff says the driver then pointed a handgun at deputies … and fired several shots.
Patrol cars were hit, but no officers hurt.
At that point, deputies returned fire killing the suspect.
It’s not clear exactly why the vehicle was considered suspicious.
The sheriff says a citizen called to report it parked suspiciously in a neighbor’s driveway.
The TBI is now investigating.
They have not yet released the name of the deceased.
Also, no word on what if anything was found in the vehicle.
As always there are many questions to be answered:
— Why suspicious?
— Why did driver refuse to get out of car?
— Why did he pull a gun and start shooting?
My understanding is that there is patrol car and deputy body cam video of the incident.
That should provide several answers.
