An Oakland man was charged with murder Tuesday after a dispute with his roommate over chores turned fatal, police said.
Markus T. Mcglothen, 30, was arrested Sunday and charged with a dozen felony counts, including murder and violating bail conditions, following the altercation.
Per the Bay Area News Group, Mcglothen and his late roommate, who the paper identified as Patrick Lynch, began fighting about “cleaning responsibilities” in their shared home in Oakland near the MacArthur freeway.
When Lynch allegedly slapped Mcglothen’s phone out of his hand, the altercation turned physical. Lynch punched Mcglothen, then chased him to the latter’s bedroom, per a court document filed by Oakland Police Det. Andrew Jackson and obtained by Bay Area News Group. That’s when Mcglothen allegedly procured a gun and shot Lynch repeatedly “on various parts of the body,” the court filing claims.
After the victim fell to the ground, Mcglothen called 911 to alert them of the alleged shooting.
He was arraigned in the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin Wednesday, and is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail without bail. He has yet to enter a plea.
