Police fatally shot a man in Queens Monday morning after he pointed what appeared to be an “imitation gun” at cops, according to NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey.
Police responded to a call of shots fired on Beach 54th Street between Elizabeth Avenue and Beach Channel Drive at about 10:35 a.m., according to NYPD officials.
No shots had been fired when officers arrived at what is believed to be a domestic dispute between brothers, according to Maddrey and Mayor Eric Adams.
Uniformed police officers questioned one man at the front door of his apartment at Queens’ Ocean Bay Apartment complex and then entered the residence, Maddrey said.
The two officers then talked to a second man through a closed bedroom door, Maddrey said. When the bedroom door opened and officers tried to enter, the man “points a firearm at them,” Maddrey said.
Police asked the man to drop his weapon before one cop shot the man multiple times, at least once in the torso, according to Maddrey and Adams.
