NY home weed growers could possess 5 pounds of recreational marijuana under new proposal
The New York Office of Cannabis Management on Tuesday revealed a set of proposed regulations for growing recreational marijuana at home.
It is currently illegal in New York to grow marijuana plants at home for recreational use until regulations have been established, according to the Office of Cannabis Management.
Under the proposed rules, New Yorkers who are at least 21 years old would be allowed to possess up to 5 pounds of cannabis flower trimmed from plants they’ve grown at home.
Home growers would be able to possess 5 pounds of cannabis concentrate or a 5-pound mix of both cannabis flower and cannabis concentrate.
New Yorkers would be allowed to grow three mature and three immature marijuana plants per person, but they wouldn’t be able to grow more than six mature plants and six immature plants per residence.
New Yorkers who grow recreational marijuana at home would not be allowed to sell it.
The Cannabis Control Board will consider the proposed home cultivation regulations during its board meeting on Jan. 24.
If approved, a 60-day public comment period will follow before the regulations can be finalized.
