On Thursday, a second set of court filings related to sex predator Jeffrey Epstein was revealed in New York. This development follows the unsealing of the initial batch of over three dozen court filings the previous day, which disclosed the names of individuals associated with Epstein.
It is important to note that the presence of individuals’ names in the files does not automatically imply their involvement in any wrongdoing. The latest filings on Thursday consist of 19 exhibits, amounting to 327 pages of court documents that were previously kept under seal.
The names were previously sealed or redacted in documents from a 2015 lawsuit Giuffre leveled against Maxwell, who has since been convicted of criminal sex trafficking charges in federal court. The parties settled in 2017, but the unsealing process has dragged on for years.
New documents show that Jeffrey Epstein tried to have a high school girl victim “emancipated” so she could live with him.
About 240 documents are expected to be unsealed in total. Judge Preska is also weighing arguments from additional Does who are seeking to have their names withheld from future disclosures.
Maxwell is appealing her criminal convictions.
Note: According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons (NamUS) database, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, more than 600,000 people go missing annually. Approximately 4,400 unidentified bodies are recovered each year.
