SATURDAY NIGHT UPDATE: As advertised, widespread, soaking rain is falling across Alabama tonight. Near the Gulf Coast, a few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible overnight; an isolated waterspout or tornado can’t be ruled out there.
SNOW TOMORROW: Colder air will drop into Alabama tomorrow, and the rain will change over to light snow. A few snow flakes are possible over the southern counties, but no accumulation is expected there.
The best chance of some snow accumulation tomorrow will be generally north of a line from Millport to Roanoke. Winter weather advisories have been issued for these areas, where amount will be generally one inch or less, mostly on grassy areas.
A winter storm warning has been issued for the northeast corner of the state… Jackson and DeKalb counties, where snow amounts of 2-4 inches are expected.
Here are some important notes on what to expect tomorrow…
*Strong pressure gradient winds could gust to 40/45 mph tomorrow; this could lead to some scattered power outages.
*Temperatures should be generally in the mid 30s while the snow falls, so roads will be mostly just wet tomorrow afternoon.
But remember, we have lots of wrecks on wet roads around here any time of the year, so be careful as always. Some patchy black ice is possible tomorrow night as the sky clears and temperatures drop below freezing. Hopefully strong winds will dry the roads/bridges quickly, however.
