Muskogee police have arrested a man suspected of kidnapping and domestic abuse.
Muskogee dispatch received a call just before 3 p.m. Monday from a father in New Mexico who wanted police to do a welfare check for his daughter in Muskogee.
When officers arrived on the scene they called out for the young woman who walked out of the warehouse building.
The Muskogee Police Department Public Information Officer Lynn Hamlin said the woman was taken to the police station while other officers tried to contact the suspect inside the building.
Hamiln said the woman had been missing for about 2 weeks according to her dad. She said the woman was disoriented and her timeline of events seemed to be off during the initial questioning.
Investigators believe that the woman made a brief phone call to her father and he notified police of her location.
Hamlin said the woman is in her young 20’s and investigators believe she was taken from New Mexico against her will.
After an extensive search police found the suspect in a small crawlspace in the attic of the building and arrested him.
The suspect has warrants in New Mexico for aggravated assault against a family member and kidnapping. Hamlin said the suspect will face those charges as well in the state of Oklahoma.
