WEST HEMPSTEAD, Long Island — Multiple shots were fired at a supermarket on Long Island Tuesday, according to police.
Nassau County police received the report of the shooting at 11:19 a.m. at the Stop & Shop in the Cherry Valley shopping center in West Hempstead.
Authorities say this is not an active shooter situation. The building is currently being evacuated and the investigation is ongoing.
The West Hempstead School District said they were informed by the police that there is activity in the area. “We are presently in a lock out and we’ll inform you when it is over,” the school district said. “Please do not come to the buildings.
