North Carolina – Mother Sentenced To 10 – 13 Years In Prison For Death Of 2-Year-Old Son
A North Carolina mother previously charged with the second-degree murder of her 2-year-old son appeared in Pender County Superior Court on Feb. 17.
She pleaded guilty to child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, and the second-degree murder charge was dismissed.
Her sentence will be 10 to 13 years.
27-year-old Quanisha Jesha Fennell was charged in relation to the 2017 death of 2-year-old Keith Stephens, Jr.
An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was due to blunt force trauma and a lacerated liver. She was arrested on February 11, 2021.
During the hearing, Fennell admitted to throwing her son on the couch, though nobody believes this would have lacerated his liver.
They think he must have hit a table or something harder, but Fennell doesn’t know. She said that she knows her actions caused his death and wants to make it right.
