Minnesota Mother Offered Plea Deal Of 40 Years In Prison For 6-Year-Old Son’s Murder
Prosecutors in Minnesota have offered a plea deal of 40 years in prison to the woman accused of killing her son with a shotgun earlier this year, according to a spokesperson for the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
28-year-old Julissa Genrich Thaler is charged with second-degree intentional murder for allegedly shooting and killing her 6-year-old son, Eli Hart.
The plea deal falls in line with the maximum sentence for second-degree murder in Minnesota.
Thaler was found competent to stand trial late last month. Jury selection in that trial is set to begin on January 30.
Her attorney has filed motions petitioning the judge to throw the case out and to release Thaler from jail without bail. She remains in custody in Hennepin County on $2 million bail.
Eli’s father, Tory Hart, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Dakota County and three of its employees after claiming they ignored warning signs that Eli was in danger.
