Phoenix – Phoenix police said Thursday morning that the mother of two young girls found dead in their home Wednesday night is the suspect in the homicide investigation.
When police arrived on the scene around 6 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 13th Street and Mountain View Road, they encountered a man pleading for help outside of his residence.
According to Phoenix police spokesperson Sgt. Andy Williams, officers found two dead victims, a 4-year-old girl and 9-year-old girl, in a bed inside the residence with no obvious signs of trauma.
Phoenix police said they also found a woman believed to be the mother of the victims inside of a bedroom, suffering from what looked to be self-inflicted stab wounds.Â
Phoenix police are still investigating, and the medical examiner is working to determine a cause of death for the two victims.
The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
The man who was detained on scene cooperated with detectives and was later released.
