Mitch McConnell says GOP to vote for US to DEFAULT on its DEBT – as parties head for debt limit SHOWDOWN:
High-ranking Democrats said Monday they will attach a suspension of the debt limit to a must-pass spending bill to keep the government funded, a move that would essentially dare Republicans to vote ‘no’ and spark a government shutdown and potentially, a recession.
Congress has until the end of September to pass the bill.
McConnell quickly met the dare: “We will not support legislation that raises the debt limit,” “Democrats do not need our help.”
Treasury Secretary urged Congress on Sunday to raise the debt ceiling, warning that defaulting “would likely precipitate a historic financial crisis.”
