Mitch McConnell calls January 6 a “violent insurrection”

The Senate minority leader criticized the RNC for censuring Representatives Kinzinger and Cheney, and broke with GOP language calling out the Capitol protests.

“It was a violent insurrection with the purpose of trying to prevent a peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election,” he said Tuesday.

The RNC has maintained the January 6 protesters were “engaged in legitimate political discourse.”
