“Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd joins Willie Geist on Sunday TODAY to discuss his interview with former Vice President Mike Pence and his “likely” 2024 presidential run. Todd says Pence goes a long way in trying to distance himself from Donald Trump.
Former Vice President Mike Pence commended leaders of both parties for working to certify the results of the presidential election on Jan. 6, 2021, in an interview airing Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
“I give credit to the leaders in both political parties that day … There was a unanimous agreement that whatever needed to be done, we needed to reconvene the Congress,” Pence told host Margaret Brennan.
Pence mentioned speaking to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other congressional leaders amid the chaos that disrupted the certification, but didn’t name anyone else.
“I remember Speaker Pelosi telling me that she’d actually heard from one source that it could be up to three days before we could be back in the Capitol and to all of their credit, the Democrat and Republican leaders all said that was completely unacceptable,” he added.
He said he had no contact with former President Donald Trump on Jan. 6. Last week, Pence — who has been appearing widely on TV to promote his new book — said Trump endangered him and his family.
