Michael Darling was sentenced to 25 years for first-degree manslaughter. Darling was convicted of fatally shooting his estranged wife, Kristine Darling.
On February 7, 2019, Darling called 911 and claimed his wife of less than five years had shot herself. Ongoing investigations led to his indictment on May 26, 2023.
Darling reportedly fled his home, prompting a manhunt. He was caught in Mayfield on May 27.
On August 14, 2023, Darling pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge. His sentencing was enhanced from 17 years to 25 years after he tried to maintain innocence during a pre-sentence investigation.
Sentencing includes five years of post-release supervision. He was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility pending transfer to state prison.
