Merck claims it’s oral Covid-19 antiviral pill effective against variants

The pharma firm claims the oral drug Molnupiravir has shown to be most effective when given to patients in the early stages of Covid infection.

“It’s a really nice observation because it gives us confidence that it will work the same across the variants that are already out there, and potentially against any new variants that may emerge,” Jay Grobler head of infectious disease and vaccines at Merck told Reuters.

The news come after Pfizer announced Monday that it is now testing a pill that could also help people ward off Covid-19 if a close contact gets the virus.
