MEPs Blame Gazprom for ‘Manipulating’ Skyrocketing Gas Price – after experts blamed a lack of wind energy!
European gas prices have surged by more than 170% since the start of the year, the EU Commission said it is “monitoring” the situation at a presser on Friday.
The commission claimed an increase in global demand has caused the price to spike sharply, as ICIS analytics stated this week the drop was due to North Sea winds tailing off.
But 42 MEPs place the culpability on Russian gas giant Gazprom – stating in a letter it was MANIPULATING prices and proposing the EU open an investigation.
The lawmakers believe Gazprom are deliberately driving up prices in order to “pressure” Brussels over the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Gazprom has denied any market manipulation, blaming depleted European stockpiles.
