Mass stabbing on Virginia highway and shots fired by police: 4 people reportedly stabbed

All lanes of Interstate 495 southbound in Annandale were shut down Sunday afternoon following an incident reportedly involving multiple people stabbed.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said detours are in place near mile marker 51.6 on the Outer Loop, with backups of four miles or more.

The highway is closed southbound from Gallows Road to Little River Turnpike (Route 236). VDOT advised drivers to seek other routes.

Virginia State Police spokesman Matthew Demlein said he could not confirm any information about the incident Sunday afternoon, but was working to get details.

“At least FOUR victims have been stabbed on the Beltway; two are reported in critical condition,” the site reported Sunday afternoon.
