Source – Deobra Redden, who attacked a Las Vegas judge in a widely publicized incident earlier this year, was sentenced on December 10, 2024, to a prison term ranging from 26 to 65 years.
The sentencing was carried out by District Court Judge Susan Johnson.
Redden had attacked Judge Mary Kay Holthus during a sentencing hearing for an attempted battery charge, an incident that was captured on video and went viral.
The attack was described by the sentencing judge as “an assault on the entire judiciary.” Redden’s defense suggested a concurrent sentence with time he was already serving, but this was not granted by Judge Johnson.
Instead, he received an aggregate prison term reflective of the severity of his actions.
Redden pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to attempted murder but was found guilty but mentally ill on several charges following his trial.
