A man was taken into custody in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman and a deliberately set fire inside a residential apartment.

On January 26, 2026 just after 6:10 p.m., police say officers and fire crews responded to reports of a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove, Illinois. Upon arrival, first responders located a woman who had suffered sharp-force injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Eliza Morales.

Investigators determined Morales was pregnant at the time of her death, leading to the additional charge related to the loss of her unborn child. Authorities have not publicly disclosed how far along the pregnancy was.

A second individual was also inside the apartment at the time of the fire and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for further evaluation. Their condition has not been released.

Police also confirmed that an animal was killed during the incident, resulting in the animal cruelty charge, though further details regarding the animal have not been made public.

Authorities identified the suspect as 19-year-old Nedas Revuckas. He is facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder, armed robbery, aggravated arson, intentional homicide of an unborn child, and animal cruelty.

Revuckas is scheduled to appear in DuPage County Court on January 28 for a detention hearing, where a judge will determine whether he will be held without bond as the case proceeds.

The investigation remains ongoing.
