KCRA – A 22-year-old Sacramento man was arrested after the death of his infant son, police said. Jail records show he is accused of murder.
Officers responded Tuesday morning after the infant was brought to the emergency room at UC Davis Medical Center by his mother with injuries, Sacramento police said.
The identity of baby has not yet been revealed as officials continue their inquiry, as reported by CBS Sacramento.
ABC10 reports that the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the mother of the child sought emergency care for her baby at a hospital on Stockton Boulevard.
Despite efforts by medical staff, the baby was pronounced dead at the institution.
Following the incident, the Sacramento Police Department launched an investigation which quickly led them to detain 22-year-old Miguel Jimenez, identified as the father of the deceased child.
Jimenez, who was present at the hospital, is now facing homicide-related charges.
In a subsequent development, as per CBS Sacramento, police believe that the fatal incident took place in the family’s residence located on 47th Avenue in the south Sacramento area.
They have not yet specified how the injuries were sustained by the child or the exact nature of the alleged crime.
