Authorities in Nevada say a man was arrested after allegedly stealing a front loader from a construction site and leading police on a destructive chase.
According to the Henderson Police Department, the situation began around 9 a.m. Sunday.
A 911 call reported the theft of a construction vehicle near the Cadence neighborhood.
The man refused to stop for police and used the front loader’s bucket to smash the top of a Henderson police SUV, authorities said.
Henderson police noted that the size of the stolen front loader made it difficult for officers to stop, with the driver attempting to run over an officer and ramming police vehicles.
Officers ended up shooting at the man, who was shot in the arm and leg. The Henderson Police Department identified the officers involved as Sergeant Lance Jaworski and Officer Megan Jacobs.
The glass on the stolen front loader was also blown out as officers tried to reach the driver.
“All of a sudden, we just heard pop, pop, pop and sirens going off. Then we heard another few shots go off,” Mark, a nearby resident, said.
Police vehicles suffered damage from the front loader that also ran over a tree and street signs during the rampage.
Henderson resident James Moore shared a video of the chaotic scene, showing police flooding the streets.
“The sirens woke me up and my mom. She told me to come outside and to look at what was happening,” he said.
The chase happened in a new area of the Cadence neighborhood where construction work is ongoing on several housing projects.
