Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Stabbing Woman 77 Times With Hatchet
The man who stabbed a Rochester woman 77 times with a hatchet will spend 25 years to life behind bars.
A judge just sentenced Joseph Rivera Jr. A jury found him guilty of second degree murder back in August. Prosecutors say he stabbed Heather Majors last summer at her home on Chili Avenue. She died two days later.
Rivera was arrested in September 2021 after being released from Monroe County Jail on a parole hold. He was convicted of second-degree murder last month.
“The family of Heather Majors has been through a long journey of grief and today’s sentence can finally provide them with a sense of justice, knowing that the man who murdered their loved one may spend the rest of his life in the New York State Department of Corrections,” said Assistant District Attorney Burak Serbetci.
