Michigan – Man Sentenced To 70 To 100 Years For Killing 2 Women With Hammer
Kiernan Brown, a 30-year-old man from Delta Township, west of Lansing, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to second-degree murder, according to Ingham County court records.
Ingham County sheriff’s deputies arrested Brown in May 2019 after he showed them cellphone photos of the beaten bodies of 26-year-old Kaylee Ann Brock of Holt and 32-year-old Julie Ann Mooney of Williamston.
Brown was charged in Ingham County District Court with two counts of open murder and armed robbery in connection with the deaths. During his plea hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 2, Brown said he killed Brock and Mooney with a hammer.
Michigan law states the punishment for second-degree murder is life imprisonment.
Police responded to a 911 call at 2:41 a.m., May 10, 2019, from a woman who had a personal protection order against Brown, stating he was trying to get into her home, according to Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth.
Brown sent the woman a concerning text message prior to his arrest, stating “he loved her and spared her,” adding that she would soon know what that meant, police said. During his arrest, Brown showed officers photos of the bodies of Brock and Mooney, police said.
In a joint investigation by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, Eaton County Sheriff’s Office and Meridian Township Police Department, Brock and Mooney were found beaten to death in their homes in Holt and Williamston, respectively.
Brown was listed as a parole absconder in 2019 eight days before the two May 2019 homicides. He was previously imprisoned on convictions of assault by strangulation and theft from a motor vehicle, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records.
