A Krebs man who received life without parole in state court for murdering his daughter, then had his conviction vacated, has now been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for manslaughter.
Records show Devin Sizemore told investigators he “baptized” his 21 month old daughter Emily in 2016, but, something went wrong.
He said he held her under the water for 30 seconds, then performed CPR, then blacked out and came to, when officers were trying to arrest him.
Officers say Sizemore ran into a pond and refused to come out and that’s where they found Emily, floating facedown in the water.
Records show Sizemore had been charged with abusing the baby’s mother and had been ordered to have no contact with the woman, but, while out on bond, went to the woman’s home and took the child.
It says 2 days later, he came back and said, “God had brought the storm, God sent him to tell everyone the world was ending and everyone needed to get right with God.”
It says when the woman asked where Emily was, Sizemore said, “With God.”
Sizemore’s mother reported him and the girl missing and that’s what led to officers finding him at the pond.
He was convicted in state court in 2018 of first degree murder and given life without parole.
That was vacated by the McGirt ruling in 2021 and he was charged in federal court the same year.
He went on trial in April of 2023 and the federal jury found him guilty of voluntary manslaughter and child abuse.
He was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison this week.
