A Brunswick man will serve more than 5 years in state prison, followed by post-release supervision, after pleading guilty Thursday to several charges — among them, stabbing a police dog multiple times.
Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced that Curtis Knockwood, 25, of Brunswick, pleaded guilty to Attempted Burglary in the 2nd degree, Attempted Burglary in the 3rd degree, Resisting Arrest and Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals.
According to the DA’s office, Knockwood attempted to rob a home in the Emerald Greens section of Troy on July 5, 2023.
He fled the property after being caught by the homeowner. After being caught by TPD K9 partner Norbi. Knockwood stabbed the dog 12 times.
Knockwood will receive 5 1/2 years in State Prison, plus 5 years post release supervision and 1 1/2 – 3 years for his parole absconder status when he is sentenced on April 22.
