A Mayes County man is headed to federal prison for 20 years for beating his girlfriend to death with a hammer in 2019.
Harvey Murphy pleaded guilty to second degree murder and says he was under the influence of meth at the time.
Several people said Kimmy Stipes and Murphy were very much in love and both struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, then would get clean for a time, but start using again.
Court documents say before the murder, Murphy was having meth induced hallucinations and hearing voices and believed people were handing items in through the window to Stipes when she was in the shower.
They say he once cut a hole in the floor to see where the voices were coming from.
They say he once held Stipes down until she admitted she also heard voices.
His attorney says Murphy feels great grief, knowing he caused her death.
