A suburban man is facing multiple charges after being pulled over in Evanston on Monday.
Around 12:45 a.m., Evanston police responded to a report of shots fired from a white Jeep Wagoneer in the 1400 block of Howard Street.
According to police, officers spotted a white Jeep near Howard Street and Custer Avenue.
Officers approached the car, which was being driven by Elkimani Hairston, 41, who appeared to reach under his seat as officers approached, according to police.
He was ordered to exit the vehicle, but he refused and attempted to drive the Jeep away. Officers were able to open the door and remove him from the vehicle, however.
A loaded Lorcin 380 handgun was discovered under Hairston’s seat. In addition, they discovered 34 grams of suspected cocaine in his sweater pocket.
Hairston, of Des Plaines, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a revoked/suspended license, ammunition possession without a FOID card, and handgun possession without a FOID card.
At the time of the arrest, there were two passengers in the vehicle. One was cited for drug paraphernalia, while the other was released without incident.
