A federal jury in Muskogee finds a Sallisaw man guilty of aggravated sexual abuse, abusive sexual contact with and sexual abuse of a minor.
The trial for Jerry Rogers started Monday and ended yesterday.
He faces a minimum sentence of 30 years in prison.
Federal prosecutors say Rogers sexually abused a girl he knew, starting when she was 8 years old and continuing until she was 13.
She was 16 when she revealed to someone what he’d done to her.
The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI investigated.
The case was prosecuted in federal court because the victim is tribal member and the crimes occurred in Sequoyah County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation.
Rogers is in custody until his sentencing, at a later date.
This is now a conviction.
