Indian man faces trial for smuggling 932 diamonds into Bali by hiding them in his rectum
Customs officers arrested an Indian man known by the initials IJHM after his plane from Bangkok in Thailand landed on the Indonesian island of Bali at the Ngurah Rai International Airport.
X-rays then reportedly showed that seven plastic bags containing the precious stones had been pushed into a condom, which the 48-year-old man had been carrying around in his anus.
The total weight of the diamonds was 40.73 carats or just over 8g.
Imran Yusuf, a spokesman for the Badung Prosecutors’ Office, said that IJHM is now under his custody whilst awaiting trial.
