Washington Man Charged with Murder After Allegedly Found With Missing Montana Woman’s Motorhome In Idaho
A 42-year-old Washington man is facing murder charges in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of a missing Montana woman whose motorhome was allegedly found in his possession in Idaho, say authorities.
Chris Brandon Foiles was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the presumed death of 34-year-old Megan Ashley Stedman, the Idaho Falls Police Department said in a release.
Stedman vanished on Dec. 15, 2023, the Bozeman Police Department said in a statement. She was last seen in the Bozeman/Livingston area. It is unclear whether her body has been found.
“Bozeman Police Department detectives believe Megan is missing under suspicious circumstances and are concerned for Megan’s safety,” the Bozeman Police Department said in the statement.
A missing persons poster said she was “last thought to be with her estranged boyfriend, Chris Brandon Foiles.”
Stedman was known to drive a 1973 large, white Landau motorhome with a red stripe on the sides that had obvious damage to the rear driver’s side light, the poster said. It bore a Washington license plate, the poster said.
Sometime in the last four weeks, the red stripe was painted blue, police said. Stedman also had a black and white brindle-coated dog, the poster said.
On Friday, nearly a month after Stedman was last seen, police in Idaho Falls, Idaho, responded to a call about a motorhome parked on Wardell Street that matched the description of Stedman’s motorhome, the Idaho Falls Police Department said in the statement.
Idaho Falls police officers located the motorhome on that street and “made contact with Chris Foiles who was detained at that time,” Idaho Falls Police said in the statement.
Inside the motorhome, police said, investigators allegedly “found evidence to support arresting Foiles.” He was then charged with first-degree murder.
He was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
On Sunday, a GoFundMe Stedman’s brother Adrian Mitma started for her children said, “Our sister, Megan Stedman was taken from us tragically. This is a very difficult time.”
The Bonneville County Coroner’s Office said it was unable to comment about whether Stedman’s body was found at the scene because the investigation is still active.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in gathering information about Foiles’s movements between December 15, 2023, and January 12, 2024, the department said in the release.
Anyone who saw Foiles or the motorhome over the past 4 weeks is asked to report the information to the Idaho Falls Police Department by emailing IFPD Detective Reed at Creed@idahofalls.gov or calling the non-emergency dispatch line at (208)529-1200. Please reference case number 2024-1289.
